Inclusive Information

What does Inclusive Taekwon-Do mean to us? It embodies the ethos of keeping the doors of our Dojang wide open, welcoming individuals of all abilities with open arms. It’s about more than just integrating individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities into training, grading, and competition; it’s a holistic approach to inclusivity that extends beyond the confines of our mats. Inclusive Taekwon-Do champions collaboration and unity among all Taekwon-Do groups, fostering a supportive environment where athletes and instructors can thrive together.

Within the International Inclusive Taekwon-Do Association, we hold steadfast to a set of goals and pledges:

Firstly, we aim to promote the myriad health benefits of Taekwon-Do to individuals with both physical and intellectual disabilities. We are committed to being adaptable and accommodating to the diverse needs of those who wish to join the Inclusive Taekwon-Do community.

Moreover, we strive to enhance the well-being of the disability community, aiding in their fitness, flexibility, confidence, self-esteem, self-defense skills, and overall sense of fulfillment. Our ultimate goal is to instill a sense of empowerment and possibility, showing individuals that they can achieve greatness regardless of any perceived limitations.

Furthermore, we advocate for the sharing of resources among various community groups, fostering financial benefits and savings for all involved. By promoting synergy and collaboration, we aim to expand networks and create a supportive ecosystem where everyone can thrive.

We firmly believe that inclusivity is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic advantage. By sharing knowledge and working cooperatively, we can collectively elevate the practice of Taekwon-Do and ensure that it remains accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.

What constitutes a disability? It’s a multifaceted concept, encompassing a wide range of conditions and circumstances. From congenital disabilities to those acquired through accidents or hereditary factors, the spectrum of disabilities is vast and varied. Some disabilities are visible, while others are not immediately apparent. Inclusive Taekwon-Do recognizes the importance of embracing this diversity and providing support and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to thrive.

Sadly, many individuals with disabilities encounter barriers when attempting to participate in activities like Taekwon-Do. This exclusionary mindset is not only disheartening but also detrimental to the future of inclusivity. It’s time to rewrite this narrative and create a future where everyone, regardless of ability, feels welcomed and valued. Let’s work together to make this vision a reality!
