On June 24, the Inclusive Taekwon-Do Online Championships brought together athletes from around the globe, celebrating skill and determination across diverse abilities. The virtual event saw participation from seven countries: Argentina, Ireland, Greece, Norway, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, and Italy, with a total of 40 competitors.
Russia emerged as the top performer, clinching 9 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. New Zealand followed with a strong showing, securing 7 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. Greece displayed commendable skills, earning 2 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Norway also shone, winning 1 gold medal. Ireland took home 4 silver and 1 bronze, Italy earned 2 bronze, and Argentina secured 1 bronze.
The competition featured a variety of events, including individual and team pattern events, as well as unified abilities challenges, where athletes with disabilities paired with mainstream partners to showcase their skills. The event was a testament to the inclusivity and spirit of Taekwon-Do, highlighting the sport’s capacity to unite people of all abilities.
As the excitement from this championship settles, preparations are already underway for the Inclusive Taekwon-Do World Championships, set to take place online in November 2024. With over 100 participants expected, the upcoming event promises to be even more inclusive and spectacular, offering a global stage for athletes to demonstrate their talents and break barriers.
